For Health & Environment Go Vegetarian
– Amala Akkineni for PAWS
and now Amala Akkineni aims to move people to show consideration for animals by posing for an eye-catching PAWS advertisement.
Eating meat leaves behind an environmental toll that generations to come will be forced to deal with. The meat industry is one of the primary contributors to problems such as pollution, food shortages and the emptying of our oceans. Raising animals for food also requires massive amounts of water, energy, and land.
Think again. Marine animals – such as tuna, octopuses, crabs, prawns and eels – absorb contaminants from the water in which they live, so their flesh is laced with a wide range of toxic chemicals and other dangerous substances. These include PCBs, DDT and dioxin, which cause liver damage, nervous system disorders and foetal damage; bacteria (such as E. coli) from sewage that can cause serious food poisoning; and other dangerous contaminants such as cadmium, mercury, lead, chromium and arsenic, which can cause health problems ranging from kidney damage and impaired mental functioning to cancer. The Times of India reported that the Ganga pollution–monitoring project run by Patna University found that fish taken from the Ganga River contained very high levels of toxic contaminants – in fact, the scientists noted that DDT in the fish’s flesh was 16,000 times more concentrated than it was in the water itself.
Ahead of ‘World Hug a Vegetarian Day’ on 30th September, actress Ayesha Takia has posed with a T-Shirt for a new ad campaign for encouraging everyone to give up meat.
The campaign is for animal rights organization Plant & Animals Welfare Society(PAWS), and Ayesha, in her own little way, has sent out a message asking everyone to be stars for not eating meat.
Ayesha, who has featured in movies like “Taarzan: The Wonder Car”, “Dor”, “Salaam-E-Ishq” and “Mod”, has flashed her million dollar pose for the ad campaign.
In the past, celebrities like Hema Malini, Anju Mahendroo, Amala Nagarjuna Akkineni and Ashmit Patel have starred in pro-vegetarian ads for PAWS.
